Helm Academy is an innovative new SEN school dedicated to providing a nurturing and supportive environment for children with diverse learning needs. As a specialist children’s home provider, our successful organic growth has led us to expand our mission, and we are excited to open our first Independent SEN & SEMH Specialist Schools (11-16) offering an alternative curriculum to young people with a range of SEMH special educational needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the classroom teacher in planning and delivering high-quality lessons tailored to the needs of students with SEN.
  • Work with individuals and small groups of students to provide targeted support and intervention.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and engagement.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, providing feedback and support as needed.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and external agencies to support student learning and well-being.
  • Contribute to the overall development of the school’s inclusive practices. Lead small group activities and support learning plans under the direction of the teacher.

Entry Requirements

  • HLTA Qualification is essential.
  • At least 3 years of experience working in SEN settings, including experience in a minimum of two schools supporting students with MLD or SLD.
  • Confidence and comfort in working with students with SLD, even if your prior experience has focused on MLD.
  • Willingness to assist with some personal care tasks.
  • A valid DBS registered on the Update Service is mandatory.
