Fantastic opportunity exists for an experienced Headteacher at Helm Academy. Helm Academy is an innovative new SEN school dedicated to providing a nurturing and supportive environment for children with diverse learning needs. As a specialist children’s home provider, our successful organic growth has led us to expand our mission, and we are excited to open our first Independent SEN & SEMH Specialist Schools (11-16) offering an alternative curriculum to young people with a range of SEMH special educational needs.

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Headteacher to lead Helm Academy. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in special education, excellent leadership skills, and a commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment. You will be responsible for developing and implementing the school’s vision, curriculum, and policies while ensuring high-quality education and care for all students.

Key Responsibilities

  • The Headteacher plays a lead role in formulating the aims, objectives of the schools and establishing the policies through which they are to be achieved
  • Lead by example, holding and articulating clear values and moral purpose, and focusing on providing excellent education for all pupils
  • Provide direction and line management of the senior leadership team
  • Be responsible for the standards and curriculum of all pupils including monitoring of progress towards achievement
  • To have a central responsibility for raising the quality of teaching and learning and for pupils’ achievement. Setting high expectations and monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of learning outcomes
  • Manage safeguarding across the school and act according to Keeping Children Safe in Education.
  • Provide curriculum leadership across the school
  • Lead regular reviews of all school systems to ensure statutory requirements are being met and improved on where appropriate
  • Lead on Ofsted inspections including the independent schools’ standards
  • Manage staff development programmes and school resources
  • Lead on formulating and reviewing the School Development Pl
  • Building relationships and liaising with the local authorities and commissioning bodies.
  • Being the forward face of the school and representing Helm Academy to the highest standards.

Entry Requirements

  • A committed and passionate view of students with SEND
  • At least two years’ experience minimum of working in a SEND environment or similar unit/provision
  • QTS/QTLS is a requirement of this post
  • NPQH/SL is desirable but not essential
  • Significant experience in a leadership role within a SEN setting or a mainstream school with a commitment to inclusive education.
  • Strong understanding of the challenges faced by children with SEN and effective strategies to address these.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate a team.
  • A commitment to continuous professional development and improvement
