Salary: £12.50 per hour OR £18,000 - £22,000 per annum dependent on experience and qualifications

Helm Academy is an innovative, new SEN school dedicated to providing a nurturing and supportive environment for children with diverse learning needs. As a specialist children’s home provider, our successful organic growth has led us to expand our mission, and we are excited to open our first Independent SEN & SEMH Specialist Schools (11-16) offering an alternative curriculum to young people with a range of SEN & SEMH special educational needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the classroom teacher in planning and delivering lessons that meet the needs of students with SEN.
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students, helping them engage with the curriculum.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere that encourages student participation.
  • Support the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Monitor and track student progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents as needed.
  • Help create resources and materials to enhance the learning experience.
  • Collaborate with teachers and other staff to ensure a cohesive approach to student support.

Entry Requirements

  • Relevant qualifications or experience in a teaching assistant role, preferably in a SEN setting.
  • Understanding of special educational needs and effective strategies for supporting diverse learners.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • A minimum of grade C – level 5 GCSE in English and Maths
