Rationale – This Science curriculum is designed to allow students to learn concepts in a differentiated structure depending on student capacity and ability level, as it is designed to follow either the AQA Entry Level or ELC Entry Level qualification structure. This follows the concept of the Continuum Curriculum, as students with spiky profiles may find that they may move between difficulty levels depending on unit.
This curriculum is supported by Hamiltons Trust science resources that align with years 4-6, providing students with access to content and information in a way that is easily differentiated and provides scaffolding to understanding.
The scheme is organised into three 12-week terms (Autumn, Spring, Summer). Each unit incorporates real-life, practical contexts and functional experiments.
Students will be assessed within each unit using this rubric which allows for student understanding and achievement to be measured both by content acquisition and quality of interaction and exploration of practical experiments.
This is the first year of a growing curriculum, designed to build on pupil knowledge and skills, and support their continued learning, development, enquiry and individual learning.
