Welcome to
At Helm Academy, we are a specialist SEN school providing trauma-informed, therapeutic education for children aged 11 to 16. We create a nurturing and stable environment where every interaction is underpinned by empathy, understanding, and evidence based practice. Our staff are highly trained to recognise and respond to the impact of early trauma, attachment difficulties, and neurodiversity, ensuring every pupil is met with compassion and a tailored approach.
Our unique primary-model structure supports pupils in remaining with one dedicated teacher and class throughout the day, minimising transitions and reducing anxiety. Lessons are delivered using secondary level content but adapted to each child’s developmental stage and individual needs. We also offer a dedicated nurture class, supported by tools such as the Boxall Profile, for pupils requiring more intensive therapeutic input.
